Demand Response Capacity Programs
When consumption outstrips production - on hot summer days, for example - it causes instability in the electric grid, which can result in extreme voltage fluctuations or even grid failures. Demand response capacity is a highly effective and cost-efficient means of reducing the potential for electricity grid volatility during times of supply and demand imbalance. Clients that agree to participate in capacity programs are paid for their willingness to reduce their consumption of electricity. The more kilowatt hours a client is willing to shed, the more money they will earn. CPower is an authorized aggregator of demand response capacity programs in New York, New England, the Mid-Atlantic region (PJM), California, and Ontario.Clients enrolled in demand response capacity programs are paid a monthly or quarterly dollar amount per kilowatt based upon the amount of electric load they commit to curtail during a demand response event. Participating clients are paid regardless of whether a grid emergency event is actually declared by a utility or grid operator. When an event does occur, clients can curtail their load by lowering their electricity usage, operating an on-site backup generator or other means.
