NEW YORK, June 22 (Reuters) - ConsumerPowerline, an energy asset management company, has secured about $6 million of revenue for its New York City customers by selling their excess energy capacity in the 2005 summer demand response markets.
In a release, ConsumerPowerline said its customers, which include hospitals, cooperative residential apartment complexes and commercial facilities, represent over 340 megawatts of electricity purchasing power in the New York markets.
One megawatt powers about 800 homes, according to the North American average.
The New York Independent System Operator administers demand response programs, which allow the grid operator to call on participants to reduce power usage during times of energy shortages to maintain the reliability of the system.
The NYISO also administers the day-ahead demand response program, which allows energy users to bid their load reductions, or "negawatts," into the day-ahead energy market just as generators do.
ConsumerPowerline works with energy consumers to find ways to make money from their energy assets by among other things reducing consumption and selling their excess energy capacity in the electricity markets.
