Middlesex Regional Educational Services Commission Enlists CPower to Manage School Districts’ Energy Consumption
Schools Positioned to Earn New Source of Revenue by Saving Electricity

NEW YORK - March 23, 2009 - CPower (www.cpowered.com), a leading energy management firm, today announced that it will manage energy consumption for 12 school districts served by the Middlesex Regional Educational Services Commission (MRESC), located in Piscataway, New Jersey. An estimated 20 schools within these districts will use CPower's energy management demand response solution to reduce their electric energy consumption, providing reliable relief to the regional electrical grid and contributing to the State of New Jersey's environmental sustainability initiatives.

CPower was selected to provide demand response services following a cooperative bidding process by the MRESC's Regional Energy Services Co-Op, where they evaluated providers, based on their program offerings, support services and reimbursement rate. Through the CPower demand response program, a number of public school districts and one municipality will be participating, and the MRESC will be extending enrollment to other school districts that qualify to participate.

Under the terms of the agreement, participating schools have committed to curtail at least 150 kilowatts (kW) of electricity upon request, thereby reducing stress on the grid during periods of peak demand and decreasing the need for utility providers to generate additional power. In exchange for their participation, the districts' boards of education will receive payments for their schools' contributions.

"Given today's economic climate, it's more important than ever for schools to find innovative ways to cut costs without cutting corners," said Patrick Moran, business administrator of MRESC. "CPower's demand response program not only allows our schools to save money by reducing electricity consumption in ways that do not impact students and faculty, but it also provides them with a much needed alternative source of revenue, which can help them close budget gaps."

"We are very excited to have partnered with MRESC, enabling them to bring demand response to their school districts," said Gary Fromer, CEO of CPower. "In addition to helping the schools save energy, it provides them with a new source of income that can be applied directly to help fund new energy efficiency and infrastructure improvement projects."
